KWHCoin Chief Operating Officer Monica Shepard at the Energize Africa Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina discussing off grid electrification opportunities with delegates.

The KWHCoin team is excited to announce a collaboration with the United States Department of Commerce Commercial Service Division to rapidly advance the company’s smart grid energy solutions platform across the globe.

What is a Smart Grid?

“The grid,” refers to the electric grid, a network of transmission lines, substations, transformers and more that deliver electricity from the power plant to your home or business. A “smart grid” relates to the digital technology that allows for two-way communication between the utility and its customers, and the sensing along the transmission lines is what makes the grid smart.

KWHCoin has developed a renewable energy network to deliver electricity and energy solutions to the over 500 million off grid households around the world. Blockchain technology coupled with smart contracts will enable two way communication between “prosumers’, solar panels, electric vehicles, demand response technologies and renewable energy customers to unlock a dynamic new green economy.

“We are very excited to partner with the U.S. Department of Commerce to build the resources necessary to develop our smart grid energy solutions. Our off grid electrification portfolio is centered on providing services in Africa, the Caribbean, as well as South America and the Commerce department partnership adds tremendous value as we develop our international customers and service profile,” says KWHCoin CEO Girard Newkirk.

KWHCoin has developed strategic partnerships in Kenya and Sierra Leone providing initial smart grid deployments and energy solutions. The team plans to expand its East Africa energy network with its rural village electrification project in Kilisa Village in Kitetat , Makueni County Kenya.
